Voters in eight of 11 Arkansas school districts passed millage rate changes Tuesday, including the Hot Springs School District, which approved a 4.4-mill increase that will fund construction of a new junior high school, by 46 votes.
Patrons in the Harrisburg School District turned down a third attempt by the district to equalize its millage rate to the 39.9-mill rate collected by the Weiner School District, which was annexed into the Harrisburg district in 2010.
Wonderview and Huntsville districts also defeated millage increase proposals.
A mill is equivalent to one-tenth of a cent. Each mill produces $1 of tax for every $1,000 assessed property valuation.
