Arkansas 4 rebuild to shut lanes til '17

Work on a section of Arkansas 4 between McGehee and Arkansas City in Desha County will require alternating lane closures through early next year, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Reconstruction of different parts of the highway will require extended periods of one-way traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal. The traffic signal usage will be intermittent but frequent to allow both construction and traffic access to the highway, the department said.

Resurfacing existing bridges and other sections of pavement will also cause intermittent one-way traffic. No temporary traffic signals will be used for this work, but flaggers will control traffic, the department said.

The lane closures began Wednesday and will continue through project completion, which is expected to be early 2017, weather permitting.
