Levy Day to feature political speeches

Levy Day, a festival and political rally, will be held from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at the Kroger parking lot at 4401 Camp Robinson Road in North Little Rock.

The event, sponsored by the Levy Business Association, is free to the public.

Prizes of $50 gift cards are to be awarded every half hour, and a $500 grand prize will be awarded once all political speeches by various local and state candidates are finished, according to a news release announcing the event. Winners must be present to claim their prize.

Candidates for city, county and state political races have been invited to speak for 3 to 5 minutes each, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Booths will be set up for candidates to meet voters.

Games, activities, face painting, food trucks and a beer garden also will be available. Entertainment will be provided by the Mariachi Viva Jalisco Band and a Hispanic dance troop from St. Anne's Catholic Church. Halloween treats will be available for children, who are encouraged to wear costumes, according to the news release.

Levy Day, once a must-stop event for candidates during election years, hasn't been held in 13 years, said Peggy Hogg, Levy Business Association president.

"We're blending the old-fashioned traditions of the past with the politics and culture of today's Levy," Hogg said in the news release.
