Lioneld Jordan shows up, all the time

The other night was the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce mayoral candidate forum.

All three candidates were invited and expected to attend, but shortly before it began the two challengers announced they would not attend. Word of this went through the packed room like a shock wave.

But Mayor Jordan showed up and answered every question.

Lioneld Jordan always shows up.

He has never missed a City Council meeting in his eight years as alderman for Ward 4 or in his almost eight years as our mayor. Not one.

In the last nine years he has missed fewer than a handful of Saturday mornings at the Farmers' Market, meeting with citizens and listening to their questions, concerns and complaints.

I have had the privilege of witnessing many of these interactions and am still impressed to watch Lioneld being Lioneld. When a citizen comes to speak with him, regardless of who they are or what their concern may be, Lioneld listens respectfully. He often responds by telling them the answer to their question, or who best to contact on city staff.

If it is an issue that is new to him, he will take out a pen and paper and take notes and he will get back to them. He doesn't just say he will; he does.

Keep in mind, this is the weekend I'm talking about, and the Farmers' Market is only one of many stops on his ever-evolving Saturday schedule. He regularly attends charity events, art events, civic events -- all on his own personal time. Weeknights, weekends, day in and day out.

Ask him why and he'll tell you it's because he loves this city. Not only does he tell us, but he shows us. Every single day.

I admire his commitment, energy and demonstrated love for our sweet city and am looking forward to another four years of his incomparable service and passion to accomplish what is best for all of its citizens.

Please join me in recognizing and appreciating what he has given and will continue to give of himself for each and all of us.

Vote early or on Nov. 8 for the best mayor any city could ever have, Lioneld Jordan.
