Two give $375,000 to libraries at UA

FAYETTEVILLE -- A $375,000 gift commitment from a Jonesboro couple will support libraries at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, according to the university.

The Janet and Ben Hyneman Leadership Endowment will provide funding for an ongoing arts and lecture series.

The endowment "validates its importance in the intellectual and cultural life of campus," Carolyn Allen, dean of UA libraries, said in a statement.

Ben Hyneman has been a UA System trustee since 2008, appointed by former Gov. Mike Beebe.

Hyneman, president of Southern Pioneer Property and Casualty Insurance Co., and his wife, Janet, both earned bachelor's degrees from UA. As part of the university's $1 billion fundraising effort known as Campaign Arkansas, Janet Hyneman is chairman of a committee focused on UA libraries.

"A strong library system is so important to our university," Ben Hyneman said in a statement. "By helping the libraries, we are helping all students."
