SpectacUALR honors most valuable pair, Marilyn and Greg Brown

Marilyn and Greg Brown left their home in Park City, Utah, to return to the alma mater to which they've been so generous throughout the years.

The couple were the honorees at the eighth annual SpectacUALR benefit, held Oct. 13 at the school's Jack Stephens Center. Mary Katherine Henderson and Mike Castleberry were co-chairmen of the evening, which grossed $228,000 for Trojan athletics programs, said planning committee member Andrea Peel.

Following a VIP event for certain ticketholders, SpectacUALR patrons were greeted by the school's student-athletes. Partygoers then perused silent auction items, took advantage of an abundance of heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails and bid on live-auction items hawked by KTHV news anchor Craig O'Neill. Several prizes were raffled off.

As in years past, former sportscaster Ray Tucker offered introductory remarks, then UALR athletic director Chasse Conque welcomed guests and called all the athletes up to the stage. Conque and Annette Fisher teamed up to present the Browns with their award.

The Browns, both UALR graduates, are past members of the Alumni Association board of directors, the Athletic Foundation board of directors and the Board of Visitors. They helped create and continue to support the university's Benton Learning Center and host the Little Rock men's golf team on a near-annual basis during its tournaments in Utah. The Stephens Center's Academic Success Center for Student-Athletes was dedicated in their name in 2009.
