All Souls Day concert’s theme

The Hendrix College Chamber Orchestra will present a concert in celebration of All Souls Day at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 in Greene Chapel. The college is at 1600 Washington Ave., Conway.

The orchestra, conducted by Karen Griebling, will perform “All Souls Musical Meditation on Diversity and Inclusion,” featuring guest artists from Opera in the Rock. The meditation will be led by J.J. Whitney, the college chaplain.

The program will feature “Pieta” by Ulysses S. Kay featuring Danielle Rosson on English horn; selections from Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward featuring soprano LaSheena Gordon; selections from Incident at Wounded Knee by Louis W. Ballard; and Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch featuring David Gerstein on cello. The program will also include selections from Frederick Douglass by Kay featuring soprano Jaimee Jenson McDaniel and baritone Ronald McDaniel and “Prayer” from September Trilogy by Andrew Rudin.

Retreat will focus

on centering prayer

The Rev. Lowell Grisham and Nick Cole will lead a one-day centering prayer retreat Nov. 12 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church and the Arkansas House of Prayer, 20900 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock. The retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Grisham, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, and Cole, vice chairman of Contemplative Outreach, Ltd., both have extensive experience in centering prayer, which uses silence as a way to seek communion with God. Centering prayer is often used as a form of meditation and can be a spiritual practice for people of all faiths.

Enneagram topic

for conference

Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, will host an Enneagram Conference with best-selling author and therapist Ian Morgan Cron and enneagram master Suzanne Stabile, Friday-Oct. 29. The program will be held 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

Cron and Stabile are the authors of The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery. Both have been teaching others about the enneagram, a system for determining a person’s personality type, for years. The enneagram is increasingly used as a spiritual tool by churches of various denominations.

Quintet performs

Schubert on Friday

The Chamber Music Series continues with “A Shubertiade” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock. The program will feature a piano quintet from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra performing the music of Franz Schubert, including the Trout Quintet.

A reception and meet and greet will follow. Tickets are $20 for open seating and are available online at trinitylittlerock.org.

The series will continue with the Lysander Piano Trio at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17, presented by the Little Rock Chamber Music Society. Tickets will be $30 for open seating and will be available at the door. Information is available by calling (501) 372-0294.
