Pedestrian hit on I-30 among 4 fatalities

Arkansas authorities reported the deaths of four people in crashes Thursday and Friday.

Texarkana police reported that a man was fatally struck Friday morning when he walked in front of an 18-wheeler on Interstate 30 in southwest Arkansas. The department said the accident occurred about 6:15 a.m. at mile marker 3, which is near Sammy Lane in Texarkana.

Police said the man walked onto the interstate and was hit by an eastbound tractor-trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators were working to identify him, police said.

The Arkansas State Police reported the deaths Thursday of three other people.

Rickey Lynn Hardin, 60, died in a head-on collision in Poinsett County south of Trumann, according to the agency. He was driving a 1987 Chevrolet Silverado pickup north on Interstate 555 when a 2016 Hyundai traveling on the wrong side of the road struck his vehicle about 6:48 p.m.

Hardin of Marked Tree was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Hyundai driver, William Clem, 87, of Trumann, was injured. He was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

State police reported that Twyla Neal, 52, was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday in Crittenden County. Neal of Marion was driving a 2013 Ford Transit Connect south on Arkansas 50 toward Arkansas 218.

Neal did not yield at the intersection, and her vehicle was struck by a 2014 Nissan Maxima traveling east on Arkansas 218 about 4:37 p.m., according to state police.

The Nissan driver, Brett Bumgarner, 20, of Colt, was taken to Regional One Health in Memphis.

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Johnson County, state police reported. John Duff, 36, of Lamar was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus north on U.S. 64 near Hickeytown Road in Lamar when the vehicle struck a stop sign and traveled across the road about 9:57 a.m.

The vehicle then struck a tree and overturned.
