Anniversary congrats

Congratulations on your 25th year! Some people, especially the younger generations, feel newspapers are dinosaurs, but I feel my morning isn't complete until I sit down with my Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. I've read numerous newspapers from all over the United States and I believe still, as I have for years, this newspaper is hands-down one of the very best in the country. There's no moss on this publication.

Keep up the superior work, fine fellows. And here's to another 25 years.

Thoughts on election

First of all, I'm sure the reason that Hillary Rodham Clinton doesn't wear dresses is because they don't make them in flame-retardant materials.

Second, those celebrities, the ones who said they'd leave the country if Donald Trump got elected, should be required to sign a notarized letter to that effect, and that letter should include a guaranteed departure date.

And finally, it's best to remember that the contest isn't between the least worst of the two, but among the best of the three.

History lesson needed

As a pro-life voter, I am told I must vote Republican in the presidential election. The usual reason is that Supreme Court justices must be appointed who would overturn Roe v. Wade. A little history lesson is in order here.

In January 1973, this decision was written by Justice Harry Blackmun, a Nixon appointee. Of the seven consenting votes, five were cast by Republican appointees: Chief Justice Warren Burger, appointed by President Nixon; Justice William J. Brennan, appointed by President Eisenhower; Justice Lewis Powell, appointed by President Nixon; Justice Potter Stewart, appointed by President Eisenhower; and Justice Blackmun. Other assenters were: Justice William O. Douglas, appointed by President Johnson; and Thurgood Marshall, appointed by President Johnson. Dissenters were: Justice William Rehnquist, appointed by President Nixon; and Justice Byron White, appointed by President Kennedy.

In the 43+ years since this decision, we have had three Democratic presidents and five Republicans. Why would anybody think Donald Trump would overturn Roe v. Wade?

Mudslinging goes on

We have come to the conclusion of the debates between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. However, the mudslinging goes on and on. Trump says Hillary should go to prison for her emails. Hillary says Trump's not fit to be president.

Instead of attacking each other, why don't they say what they will do for the country? Why can't voters just go to the polls and vote for their candidate and leave it at that? America is built on freedom. We have a right for freedom of speech, religion and political party we want to support.

Many people enforce their ideas on others. It doesn't say in the Bible, "Thou shalt vote Republican," or "Thou shalt be Baptist." The list goes on. We are not a Communist country and I pray that it won't be.

Not terrible, corrupt

Before Donald Trump became the Republican nominee, I swore that I would never vote for Hillary Clinton. I consider myself a Republican and have voted Republican. But I believe Trump is a racist, sexist, bully and liar. He is completely incompetent to be president.

So I researched unbiased articles about Hillary Clinton. What I found is the Republicans keep pounding on Benghazi and emails.

Republicans attacked Clinton on Benghazi to discredit her. But from everything I read, she is not to blame for it. It was a terrorist attack ... too bad we can't predict those before they occur. But you can't defend against all possible scenarios. Instead of Congress coming together, the Republicans saw this as a chance to attack Clinton, creating claims that have been shown to be completely false. Their philosophy uses a psychological phenomenon known as the "illusory truth effect." Simply stated, if you keep saying the same thing over and over long enough, people will start to believe it whether it is true or not. Republicans didn't need to be right to sway public opinion, they just had to say it over and over. Probably the thing that scared them most was that Clinton took responsibility--she did just the thing a leader should do.

The emails: What she did was a big mistake. But in perspective, she essentially just did what others had done before her. If there were secret items contained somewhere in the emails, they were not readily visible, but became a Republican "illusory truth effect" opportunity.

If Hillary Clinton was not running for president, these topics would never have been raised.

Now, her qualifications: She knows the job, has the experience, has the knowledge, has the guts and has the temperament to excel as our president. She isn't the terrible, corrupt person the Republicans have painted her to be.

Vote for Hillary Clinton as our next president of the United States!

What parties support

So much attention is paid to personalities of presidential candidates, it obscures the real issues. Check the party platform and see which one you want.

A proud Republican

It seems the Clinton lovers continue to deny that the Clintons will do anything to win. God detests lying lips, but the Democrats keep worshiping the smooth talk of the serpent.

I am a Republican because I believe life begins at conception. I believe God created men and woman for holy matrimony. I believe in the uniqueness and value of every human being. I believe the Republican Party best represents the standards and principles our country was founded on.

We acknowledge God and fight against groups who are striving to take God out of any and all things that influence youth. That's how Hitler and all dictators gain control. Please prayerfully consider your vote.

No soap opera, please

The avoidance of soap operas has been a lifelong quest of mine. As a child, I would not listen to them on the radio. As an adult, I would not watch soaps on television. However, this current presidential election seems to have evolved into a full-blown, disgusting soap opera.

The honorable and qualified candidates are saying, "Thanks, but no thanks." The concept of duty, honor, country must be restored at all levels of our government.

Grand Old Party? No

With Roger Ailes, Rudy Giuliani, and Newt Gingrich now chief advisers to the Donald Trump campaign, what does the family values party, once known as GOP, stand for?

  1. Groping Old Philanderers; 2. Greedy or Prejudiced; 3. Grabbing on People; 4. Grossly Over-Privileged; or 5. Grumpy Old Perverts.

Please advise.
