Walton Arts Center gets $2 million grant, exceeds fundraising goal

The Walton Arts Center announced Wednesday morning it has received a $2 million grant from the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation.

The grant pushes the center past its $23 million fundraising goal for the "Investing in our Future" capital campaign, which was aimed at adding 30,000 square feet of space to the center, renovations to the Starr Theater and a new atrium lobby, according to a news release from the center.

The grant will allow the center to expand the scope of the project to include "additional technical upgrades for the facility," the news release stated, although it did not provide further details about what those upgrades would be.

A grand reopening event is scheduled for Nov. 19.

The new atrium will be named the Walker Atrium in recognition of the gift, according to the news release.

"We wanted the arts center to interact more with Dickson Street and the Walker Atrium will be a beautiful space to enjoy in the heart of Fayetteville," the news release stated.
