Post-war divisions

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen the documentary Beyond the Divide, showing how, 50 years after the start of the Vietnam War, the post-war scars remain in the town of Missoula, Mont., 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Award-winning author

Stewart O'Nan, author of 16 novels, will discuss his work at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building, at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. O'Nan's West of Sunset received the 2016 Prix Litteraire Lucien Barriere; Snow Angels won the Pirates Alley William Faulkner Prize and was made into a feature film. White House 'insider'

Kate Andersen Brower, author of The Residence and First Women, who has covered the White House for Bloomberg News and Businessweek, provides a White House "insider's account" of staff perspective in the Central Arkansas Library System's Fred K. Darragh Jr. Distinguished Lecture, 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. A reception precedes the lecture at 6. Writers on the map

Writers at the University of Central Arkansas who are featured in "A Readers' Map of Arkansas" -- including creative writing faculty members John Vanderslice, Garry Craig Powell and Sandy Longhorn; Terry Wright, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication; and retired English department chairman Jay Ruud -- will give a public reading at 7 p.m. Thursday in Seminar Room 215, Torreyson Library, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. The map, available at arkansasreadersmap.com and in print form, honors Arkansas authors past and present.
