Hikers head to river

Hill ‘N Dale Hiking Club will hike Thursday at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, Mo. The hike is three miles, difficulty moderate, with some climbing.

Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Bella Vista Harps store parking area for carpooling. Bring a sack lunch to eat in the park. All hikers are welcome. To register for the hike contact Dora Brach, 417-501-4535 or [email protected].

Audubon visits blind

The Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society will host a field trip Oct. 29 to the new Mulhollan Waterfowl Blind at Lake Fayetteville. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks parking area for the walk to the blind.

Waterfowl migration has started, and several species may be seen from the blind. The group will look for birds on the way to the blind. All are welcome. Audubon membership is not required.

Park hosts workshop

A Dutch oven cooking workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Devil’s Den State Park on Arkansas 74 west of West Fork.

Cost is $20 for adults and $8 for children 6 to 12 years old. A $90 cost includes the workshop, a five-quart Dutch oven and a cookbook. Participants will prepare a three-course meal at the workshop. Instruction includes proper use and maintenance of the ovens.

Association sets season

The Beaver Lake Crappie Association has set the 2016-2017 tournament schedule.

Regular season tournaments will be held Oct. 30, Dec. 10, Jan. 7, Jan. 22, Feb. 4, Feb. 19, March 4, March 19 and April 19. The championship will be April 29.

Association membership fee is $40. Entry fee per tournament is $60 per boat, except $100 for the championship. Fishing is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. All weigh-ins are at Hickory Creek Marina. The association will hold the L.L. Vanzant Memorial Tournament April 1 that is open to all anglers.
