FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen and Washington's Jake Browning are the only players in the FBS ranks with two or more touchdown passes in all six games this season.

Allen is the only Arkansas quarterback to accomplish that feat and one of five SEC quarterbacks since 2000 to do it. The others are Florida's Rex Grossman (2001), Kentucky's Andre Woodson (2007), Tennessee's Tyler Bray (2012) and Texas A&M's Kenny Hill (2014).

Allen is the first Arkansas player to throw 15 touchdown passes through the first six games of a season, and his 1,632 passing yards rank sixth at Arkansas through six games.

Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack, who worked on the Arkansas staff with Austin Allen's father, Bobby, from 2001-04, said the Rebels are facing a gritty quarterback Saturday.

Asked what he saw from Arkansas in its 49-30 loss to Alabama, Wommack said, "I saw them throw for 400 yards. They knocked the quarterback around and down and everything else, and he put it on the money most of the time when he wasn't sacked.

"He threw for 400 yards, but Alabama did a great job of taking away the run. He made some great throws against them in the game. He's done that all year. I thought he did a great job against Texas A&M, and they knocked him around, too. I'm impressed with the quarterback."

Inside the series

The Arkansas-Ole Miss series dates to 1908, making it the fifth-oldest for the Razorbacks among their SEC opponents, trailing LSU (1901), Texas A&M (1903), Missouri (1906) and Tennessee (1907). The Razorbacks have played 62 games against the Rebels, more than any other current conference opponent except Texas A&M (73).

The teams will meet Saturday at the earliest date in the season since a 13-6 Arkansas victory Oct. 14, 1995.

Arkansas won the 1908 game 33-0 when it still went by the nickname Cardinals in its first season under Coach Hugo Bezdek, who is said to have inspired the Razorbacks nickname before it was adopted by students in 1910.

The 1914 game, won 13-7 in Little Rock by Ole Miss, is claimed as a forfeit victory by Arkansas. The Razorbacks claim a series lead of 34-27-1, while Ole Miss' records reflect a 33-28-1 edge for Arkansas.

The lone tie came by a score of 14-14 in Little Rock in 1984.

The Rebels' longest winning streak is six games, between the 1958 and 1969 seasons, which included victories in the 1963 and 1970 Sugar Bowls. Arkansas' longest winning streak is five games, between 1985-89.

Arkansas leads the series 10-2 in Fayetteville.

Fast and slow

Ole Miss has outscored its opponents 55-6 in the first quarter and 131-40 in the first half this season.

When the Rebels beat Georgia 45-14 on Sept. 24, they led 31-0 at halftime.

The second half has been a different story. Ole Miss has been outscored 61-34 in the third quarter and 47-43 in the fourth.

Wide fight

Arkansas offensive coordinator Dan Enos gave a shout out to the team's receivers and tight ends for their performance against Alabama.

"Our receivers and tight ends did such an unbelievable job compared to last year's game," Enos said of the matchup against Alabama's defensive backs. "It was remarkable. We competed. We fought to get open.

"There were a couple of times they thought they were getting held, and you could literally see guys fight to get off, to get open. Last year I didn't feel we competed like that. We really challenged them all week to compete. They did that."

Six cities

Arkansas and Ole Miss have played in six different cities. In addition to their on-campus games in Fayetteville and Oxford, Miss., the teams have met in Little Rock, Memphis, New Orleans and Jackson, Miss.

The only other teams Arkansas has faced in six different cities are Texas and *LSU.

Open date data

Arkansas' next two opponents will be coming off open dates. No. 12 Ole Miss (3-2 overall, 1-1 SEC) has had two weeks to prepare for the Razorbacks.

No. 23 Auburn (4-2, 2-1) will have had two weeks to prepare when it hosts Arkansas on Oct. 22.

"Well, you just kind of play the schedule," Bret Bielema said. "I didn't even know that occurred until you get ready to play them and you look back.

"It is what it is. We've had bye weeks before big games in the past, and I think sometimes maybe a bye week helps you, but I think sometimes it's been my experience where sometimes it doesn't help you. You just play the cards you're dealt."

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Arkansas had only played Ole Miss and Texas in six different cities. It has been corrected to reflect Arkansas has also played LSU in six cities.
