Jo Ann Nycum and Perry Van Whitmore Jr. exchanged marriage vows at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in the courtyard of the Arkansas Arts Center. The Rev. Terry White of Fellowship Bible Church officiated.

Parents of the bride are Roberta June and the late Billy Russell Jefferson of Hot Springs. Her grandparents are the late Lora and Robert Millican of Atoka, Okla., and the late Faye and William Jefferson of Springfield, Mo.

The bridegroom is the son of Marjorie and Judge Perry Van Whitmore of North Little Rock. His grandparents are the late Parethena and Robert Whitmore of De Queen and the late Mable and Arthur Corbell of Nashville.

White columns topped with urn arrangements of hydrangeas, roses, stock, flax leaves, bear grass and hanging amaranthus marked the aisle. Chairs lining the aisle were decorated with ribbon, roses and gold monogrammed sand dollars. Music was by The Little Rock String Quartet and vocalists Melanie Hannah and William McManus.

The bride wore a gown by Arkansas designer Jamileh Kamran of ivory silk-satin trimmed with an ivory silk brocade. She carried a bouquet of roses, white freesia, stock and bouvardia.

A reception in the Arts Center's atrium followed the ceremony. Guest tables held gold vases with arrangements of roses, freesia, dendrobium orchids and hanging amaranthus. The buffet held two tall cylinder vases with a bridge arrangement of gold curly willow decorated with gold starfish. Other cylinder vases in various heights held submerged wedding flowers. Music during the cocktail hour was by the string quartet followed by dance music from a DJ.

The bride is a registered nurse with a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in public health from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Public Health. She is employed by the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care as an outreach specialist in the Quality Division for health care in Arkansas.

The bridegroom graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a bachelor's degree in finance and insurance. He is employed by WEHCO Media Inc. as a corporate risk manager.

After a wedding trip to the British Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Little Rock.
