Opus XXXII party a ‘dress rehearsal’ for ball at newly renovated Robinson

A cloudless sky offset by a giant balloon made to look like a full moon provided the backdrop for the Opus XXXII Patrons' Party, orchestrated by hosts Chip and Cindy Murphy at their Edgehill home the night of Sept. 29. The Murphys are also co-chairmen of the forthcoming Opus XXXII The Symphony Grand Ball -- the first event to be held in the newly renovated Robinson Center.

Master of ceremonies was KTHV's Dawn Scott.

Guests enjoyed an open bar and lavish and diverse dinner buffet, served poolside among the Murphys' well-manicured lawn and terrace. Adding an air of elegance, models from the Sculp Agency roamed the party wearing classically inspired couture fashions by New York designer Dennis Basso and jewelry from Sissy's Log Cabin.

Basso fashions were available at a trunk show the following two days at Barbara/Jean. The designer was represented at the party by Arkansas native Jack Cohen and Mitchell Adelman of New York.

Food and drink were provided by some of the city's finest. Fare was by three of the Murphys' favorite Jerry Barakat restaurants: Arthur's, Ocean's and Kemuri. Wines were donated by the hosts' nephew, Matt Murphy, co-founder and president of Presqu'ile Vineyards and Winery in Santa Maria, Calif. David Cohn of Glazer's donated liquor for the party and Manjeev Demel, who runs Kemuri, provided the beer. The party was so well-staffed that there were almost as many workers as there were guests.

The main event, which should be even more spectacular, is scheduled for Nov. 12.
