Trout coming to three lakes

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will stock rainbow trout this week at Lake Atalanta in Rogers, Lake Bentonville and Lake Springdale for fall and winter fishing. Each lake will be stocked by Thanksgiving, said Melissa Jones, cold-water coordinator for Game and Fish.

Lake Atalanta will receive 1,500 trout. Lakes Bentonville and Springdale will get 800. Some of the trout will have pink tags that can be redeemed for prizes.

Hobbs hosts

Green Friday

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will host its annual Green Friday event from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

A variety of nature activities are planned, including an insect program at 9:30 a.m., tree education hike at 10 a.m., fly tying from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., bird feeding from noon to 2 p.m., and making recycled instruments at 1:30 p.m.

The musical duo, Still on the Hill, will give a free performance of songs about the Buffalo National River at 3 p.m. Each person receives a free “Still a River” CD, one per family.

Hikers explore

White Rock

Hill ‘N Dale Hiking Club will hike at White Rock Mountain on Nov. 30. The hike is three miles, rated easy.

All hikers are welcome. Meet at 8 a.m. at the Bella Vista Harps upper parking lot for car pooling. Bring a sack lunch. More hiking is available after lunch.

Hunts close trails

Most trails at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will be closed Dec. 3-7 for the park’s limited permit modern gun deer season and Jan. 7-11 for the park’s muzzle-loader deer season.

The shooting range and back country campsites will also be closed. Back country campsites close one day before each season.

The Historic Van Winkle Trail and Ozark Plateau Trail will be open.

Hobbs is Arkansas’ largest state park at 12,000 acres and the only state park that allows hunting.

Weekday eagle

cruises set

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area has added some weekday eagle watch cruises to its schedule for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

In addition to Saturday and Sunday cruises in December, cruises are set for Dec. 23 and Dec. 26-31. Cruises will take place Jan. 1-2, as well as Saturdays and Sundays the rest of January. Cruises take place on weekends through February.

Trips leave from Rocky Branch Marina at 3 p.m. Cost is $10 plus tax for adults and $5 for children 6-12. Reservations are required. Call the visitor center, 479-789-5000 for reservations.
