A Little Rock man refused to hand over his car when approached by two armed assailants at a gas station Thursday night, police said.

The 44-year-old told police he was washing his 2010 Volkswagen CC at an Exxon gas station at 5223 S. University Ave. around 8 p.m. when he was approached by two men, one of whom was wielding a black handgun while the other was holding what looked like a TEC gun, according to a Little Rock Police Department report.

One of the men said, "Gimme the car," and the victim said no, he told police. The robber responded, "I'm going to count down from three," and the victim said he started to walk toward the door of the gas station and the assailants ran off.

The victim's passenger told officers that the two men ran to a gold or tan sedan, according to a police report.

The assailants were described in the report as two black men, one about 5 feet 11 inches tall and the other about 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Found injured, man refuses police help

A 38-year-old man refused to provide details after he was found unconscious and bleeding from his mouth Thursday in Little Rock, police said.

Authorities responded to a call around 2:57 p.m. to the 1000 block of South Jefferson Street in reference to a person on the ground, according to a Little Rock Police Department report.

Before officers arrived, dispatchers said the man, Traverse Brown of Little Rock, had gotten up, walked away and told them to disregard the call. Police said they arrived at the location about 30 minutes after the initial call but were unable to find the victim.

About 4:23 p.m., an officer found Brown at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. He had been taken there by a 49-year-old Little Rock man who went to his aid, providing a towel and ice, authorities said.

Brown provided little information to a responding officer at the hospital, saying only that a shooting occurred on Maryland Avenue and Jefferson Street.

"He did not know who done it, but he was going to handle it," a responding officer wrote.

The report said the right side of Brown's face and his mouth was swollen. He also was bleeding from his left ear, police said.

It was not immediately clear how Brown was injured. The report noted that a doctor could not find entry or exit points consistent with a shooting.
