Fayetteville clerk guilty of lottery theft

FAYETTEVILLE -- Sade Sahnae Broadway, 22, of 410 E. 15th St., pleaded guilty Thursday in Washington County Circuit Court to stealing lottery tickets and cashing in the winners.

Broadway was arrested Aug. 12 in connection with misdemeanor theft of property and lottery fraud, a felony, according to court documents.

Circuit Judge Mark Lindsay sentenced her to three years probation, a $1,000 fine and $668 victim restitution. She was given credit for one day jail time served.

Court documents say Broadway was a clerk at an EZ Mart store when she and another person stole lottery tickets and other merchandise. EZ Mart did an internal investigation and video showed Broadway and the other person taking the items.

A $150 winning lottery ticket was paid for after it was found to be a winner. The thefts occurred over the course of several days. Police said Broadway admitted to taking the items during an interview.
