Fayetteville's College Avenue construction moves south, impacts traffic

FAYETTEVILLE -- The third segment of a nine-month sidewalk improvement project on downtown College Avenue will begin Monday, the city announced Friday.

The overall project includes 10-foot sidewalks with lighting and trees, new curbs and gutters and burial of some power lines on the east side on a stretch between North and Maple streets. The work began at North Street in March and will continue starting Tuesday between East Prospect and East Davidson streets.

North traffic on College will be restricted to one lane generally between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays and "an occasional Saturday," according to a city release.

The project is expected to end around November and cost about $1 million, split evenly between the city and the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. College is also designated U.S. 71B.
