Springdale girl, 3, is run over, dies

SPRINGDALE -- A 3-year-old girl died Tuesday after an SUV backed over her as it pulled out of the driveway of a Springdale home, police said.

Bwilman Taidrik, 29, of Springdale, backed over the girl at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday at 108 Willella Place while driving a 2009 Dodge Journey, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police didn't provide the girl's name. Police wouldn't say if Taidrik was related to the girl.

The girl died at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale, said Lt. Derek Wright, police spokesman.

No one else was hurt, according to the report.

Police don't believe Taidrik was impaired during the accident, Wright said. No citation was issued, and no one was arrested, he said.

The road was dry at the time with a cloudy sky, according to the report.

"It appears to be a tragic accident," Wright said.

The girl's parents weren't home Thursday afternoon and didn't return a message left at the home.

The house sits on a dead-end road shared by about six other small houses. A boat sat in the front yard.

Two small children were outside playing with brooms twice their size while adults watched them Thursday afternoon. Across the street, a trio of teens shared a bench at the edge of The Jones Center property.

No one was willing to talk about Tuesday's accident.

The girl's death is the second fatal accident this year in the city that involves a child hit by a vehicle.

A 2-year-old boy died after he was accidentally struck by a pickup his father was parking at 5:48 p.m. March 2 at 862 B Doubletree St.

Wright said drivers should be very careful when driving in neighborhoods or other areas where children are likely to play. Children also should be taught about the dangers of moving vehicles or parked vehicles with engines running, he said.
