Woman, 39, found dead in car in Arkansas; 1 in custody

A 42-year-old man is in custody after Russellville’s first homicide of 2016, which was reported Wednesday morning, according to police.

Police said in a news release that they responded about 7:54 a.m. to the 200 block of James Circle in reference to a disturbance.

At the scene, authorities found a 39-year-old woman dead inside a white passenger vehicle with gunshot wounds, the release states.

That vehicle had left the road and crashed into a fence, police said.

The woman’s identity had not been released as of Wednesday afternoon pending notification of her next of kin.

Police said the man, whose name was also not released, was booked into the Pope County jail pending a bond hearing on a charge of first-degree murder.
