UA System officials propose tuition, fee increase

University of Arkansas System officials are considering a tuition and fees increase for 10 institutions across the state for fiscal year 2017, according to a budget proposal released Monday.

The board of trustees is scheduled to vote on the budget at a two-day meeting beginning Wednesday. If approved, it would take effect July 1, said Nate Hinkel, interim director of communication for the UA System.

At the university's main campus in Fayetteville, a 3.5 percent increase in rates would raise annual revenue from tuition and fees to nearly $12 million, providing an additional $4.4 million.

The increase will come from a $5.86 jump in tuition per credit hour and a $4.08 increase in fees per credit hour for undergraduate residents, according to the proposal.
