Pitcher Tim Lincecum passed a physical Thursday and agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels worth about $2.5 million. It could be about four weeks before he makes his debut.

It's official: the Los Angeles Angels agreed to a one-year major league contract with right-hander Tim Lincecum after he passed a physical Thursday. The deal is worth about $2.5 million.

Lincecum will ramp up his throwing at the Angels' spring-training facility in Tempe, Ariz., and then report to a minor league affiliate before he is called up to the majors. It could be about four weeks before he makes his debut with the Angels, around June 15 -- his 32nd birthday.

In his nine-year career, Lincecum has only pitched for San Francisco. In his second season as a Giant, he won the National League Cy Young award, and then repeated his accomplishment the next year, when he was still just 25 years old.

He twice more earned Cy Young votes but has not been effective for extended periods since 2011. Lincecum's best earned-run average in the last four seasons was 4.13, in 15 starts a year ago. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his problematic left hip last September, leaving his career in doubt.

The Angels agreed to pay him about $2 million for the remainder of the 2016 season, with additional incentives. MLB Network reported the value of the incentives at about $1.7 million.

METS

Struggling Harvey to start

NEW YORK -- Struggling star Matt Harvey will make his next scheduled start for the New York Mets next week at Washington.

Following the shortest outing of his career Thursday night in a 9-1 loss to the Nationals, the Mets left open the possibility of skipping Harvey's upcoming turn in the rotation. But in a meeting with staff members Friday, Manager Terry Collins said, Harvey insisted he wants to fight through his problems on the mound.

Harvey is slated to start Tuesday night, but Collins said that could change. The right-hander might be pushed back a day or even moved up to pitch on three days' rest Monday because he threw only 61 pitches Thursday.

Collins said Harvey will definitely get the ball at some point during the three-game series in Washington, though.

Harvey, an All-Star in 2013, is 3-6 with a 5.77 ERA in nine starts this season.

RANGERS

New stadium in works

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers will remain in Arlington through 2054 and work with the city on building a $1 billion retractable-roof stadium that would open in 2021.

Rangers owner Ray Davis joined Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams in Friday's announcement.

Davis said putting a roof on Globe Life Park, which opened in 1994, would be too expensive. He said a climate-controlled venue could attract more fans on hot, summer days. Davis said the Rangers, marking 45 years in Arlington, expect the new stadium to open in five years.

Voters in November are expected to be asked to support the project by continuing existing sales taxes that are used to help pay for AT&T Stadium, the next-door home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The city's commitment would be capped at $500 million.
