ROGERS -- It's been more than 10 years since Scott Moore has coached at the high school level, but the 41-year-old is excited for the opportunity to be the girls basketball coach at Rogers Heritage.

"I just wanted to get back into actually coaching," Moore said. "I missed calling the plays, being the person in charge. As I've aged, I've learned from a lot of good coaches, and I want to put that into practice."

Moore's hiring was approved Tuesday night by the Rogers School Board.

The Wisconsin native has extensive college coaching experience and has spent the last three years as the director of basketball operations for Missouri State's women's basketball program. Prior to that, he spent six years as an assistant for the women's basketball team at North Greenville, an NCAA Division II school in Tigerville, S.C.

He replaces Kevin Ramey, who served in the position since the school opened eight years ago. Ramey resigned to become athletic director at Pea Ridge.

Moore also spent four seasons (2000-2004) at the high school level as girls basketball coach at Montello, Wis.

He is also anxious to enjoy that connection with students on and off the court.

"My wife and I have always been community people," Moore said. "We've been looking to put down roots and raise our kids. This just seemed like a great fit for me personally and professionally. I'm really looking forward to it."

He and his wife, Deborah, have two sons, Dylan and Tyler. Moore's salary will be $75,471.

Mark Holderbaum, athletic director for Rogers Public Schools, said Moore was selected from approximately 30 applicants.

"We interviewed five people for the position and came away with Scott as our selection," Holderbaum said. "We're really pleased with the vision he shared and his plans to get on board. I believe he's going to come in this week and visit with the kids and the Heritage community.

"His first order of business will be to find and hire an assistant coach. That's important because that's the person he will be working with to coach our kids."

The girls assistant coaching vacancy occurred because of some internal shuffling at Heritage. Paul Boyles, who served as the girls assistant this season, will now become the freshman boys' coach at Heritage. Tom Williams, who has been the freshman coach, will now become the boys' assistant coach, after assistant Jon Cook resigned.
