LED lights, fused plastic, wearable cardboard, Walmart bags and even some fabric became attire April 28 at On the Rocks: MakerFashion at the Scott Family Amazeum in Bentonville. The adults-only evening at the children's museum offered a chance for some 400 guests to flex their creativity to fashion wearable works using unconventional materials provided by the museum.

Fashion made by students at local schools was placed around the museum for guests to enjoy. A fashion show that evening presented attire from professional artists and those attending MakerFashion.

Seventy percent of the disasters the Red Cross responds to are single-family house fires, with the local chapter seeing an average of five a week. Red Cross responders help victims with emergency shelter, food, clothing and replacing essentials.

Ethan Daniel, 12, of Muldrow, Okla., received the Hero Award for helping save his family in a house fire in April, carrying his 8-year-old sister and 4-year old brother out of the burning house.

The Yell County Mounted Patrol and two civilians were also presented the award. Maj. Tom Berryhill, Capt. Thomas Fowler, Master Sgt. Shane Crowe, Sgt. Kenny Poore, Trooper Dusty Crowe of the patrol and Randy Standridge and Kenny Moore were recognized for their successful efforts to make a swift water rescue to save four Arkansas Tech University students during flooding last year.

The nonprofit organization will mark its 100th anniversary in Arkansas next year.
