LOUISIANA-MONROE 4, UALR 1

Louisiana-Monroe (20-30, 10-15 Sun Belt) used a three-run third inning to claim Friday's series opener over UALR (23-23, 14-11) at Warhawk Field in Monroe, La.

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Hunter Owens scored on Ryan Scott's RBI groundout, but the Warhawks took control of the game in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Cox singled to start the inning, advanced to second on Nathan Reynolds' sacrifice bunt and scored on Josh Faciane's two-out RBI single. Faciane advanced to second on a wild pitch and Nathan Pugh was hit by a pitch before Jacob Stockton doubled down the left field line to give the Warhawks a 3-1 lead. They added a run in the sixth when Danny Springer scored on Spencer Hemphill's sacrifice fly.

Springer was 2 for 3 to lead the Warhawks, who managed 5 hits and stranded 4 base runners. Hayden Martin was 2 for 4 for UALR, which managed 4 hits and left 7 on base. Keegan Curtis (2-2) got the victory after allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts over 7 innings. Anthony Herrera got his 10th save of the season. Matt McDowell (3-2) took the loss for the Trojans after allowing all 4 ULM runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 7 innings.

ARKANSAS STATE 6,

TEXAS STATE 1

Arkansas State (23-25, 10-15) scored a run in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh Friday to break away from Texas State (26-24, 13-12) at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

The Red Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Tanner Ring scored on a Matt Burgess double down the right field line. The Bobcats then tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning when Nick Perez scored on Jonathan Ortega's sacrifice fly.

ASU took the lead for good in the sixth when Burgess scored on a Tony Ortiz RBI single up the middle. Ring reached on an error by Ortega in the seventh, allowing Joe Schrimpf to score, and Jeremy Brown added a three-run triple to add some insurance.

Burgess was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI to lead ASU, which managed 9 hits and stranded 9 base runners. Tanner Hill was 2 for 3 and Perez was 2 for 4 to lead the Bobcats, who had 7 hits and stranded 8 base runners. Cody Jackson (2-3) earned the victory after allowing the Bobcats' lone run on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings. Coulton Lee got his first save of the season, allowing 2 hits and 2 walks in the final 3 innings. Lucas Humpal (6-5) took the loss after allowing 4 runs -- 2 earned -- on 8 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts over 62/3 innings.

SWAC

UAPB 15, ALCORN STATE 6

Alcorn State led 3-1 after 1½ innings Friday at the Torii Hunter Complex in Pine Bluff, but UAPB responded with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and five runs in the third to earn a nonconference victory in the Golden Lions' tuneup for the SWAC Tournament next week.

Alcorn State (15-34) scored a run in the first inning on an RBI single from Cedric Bell, but UAPB (21-23) tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Jaqueese Moore scored as Joshua Williams reached on an error by second baseman Wallace Rios. The Braves got consecutive RBI doubles in the second inning from Rios and Justin Barna to take a 3-1 lead.

The Golden Lions responded with four runs in the bottom of the second, coming on two wild pitches and a two-run home run from Michael Bradley, then added five more in the third. Aderly Perez doubled to left field to start the inning, then advanced to third on Jerimiah Figueroa's single to put runners at the corners with no outs. Perez scored on a Bradley sacrifice fly for a 6-3 lead. After a Robert Colon single, Figueroa scored on Moore's RBI single to left field. Tommy Haas followed with a two-run double to give UAPB a 9-3 lead. Haas scored on an RBI single from Williams to lead 10-3.

Perez singled to start the fourth inning and scored on an RBI single by Bradley to increase the lead to 11-3, but Alcorn State responded with with a three-run double by Ashton Lewis in the top of the fifth. Colon hit an RBI triple for UAPB in the bottom of the sixth and Haas followed with an RBI single for a 13-6 lead. Adam Graham scored for the Golden Lions in the bottom of the seventh when Jason Ibrahim reached on a fielder's choice, then Colon added an RBI single for a 15-6 lead.

Perez was 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored for UAPB, while Bradley and Colon were both 3 for 4. Rios was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI to lead Alcorn State. Reliever Humberto Medina (5-5) got the victory for the Golden Lions despite giving up three runs in the fifth inning. Braves starter Reggie Johnson (3-7) took the loss after allowing 5 earned runs on 3 hits with 2 walks and 1 strikeout in 11/3 innings.

SOUTHLAND

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 5, McNEESE STATE 4 (11)

Hunter Strong's leadoff home run in the 11th inning Friday gave Central Arkansas (24-23, 13-12) a victory over McNeese State (24-22, 13-15) at Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles, La.

Each team scored a run in the second inning. Matt Anderson scored for UCA in the top of the inning when Ty Tice reached on a fielder's choice, then McNeese State tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Cameron Toole's RBI single.

The Cowboys took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when Will Fox scored on a sacrifice fly by Ricky Ramirez. The Bears tied the game in the seventh inning when Tice scored on Brooks Balisterri's RBI single, but the Cowboys retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Ramirez scored on Connor Crane's sacrifice fly. UCA took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning on Justin McCarty's two-run double down the left field line, but Shane Selman answered with a one-out home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 4-4.

Strong was 3 for 5 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI to lead UCA, which managed 7 hits. Ramirez and Fox were both 3 for 5 for McNeese State. Tyler Gray got the victory after allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 4 innings. UCA starter Cody Davenport allowed 3 earned runs on 11 hits over 7 innings. Collin Kober took the loss after allowing Strong's game-winning home run.
