ADAM BROWN TRIBUTE

Event honoring Navy SEAL raises $73,000 to help others

Guests at A Tribute to Adam Brown: Our Fallen Hero shared the same sentiment: Brown was a military rock star who died too soon and will be remembered for years to come.

The Brown tribute, April 23 at the home of Edward O. Moody, raised $73,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation in Brown's name. Brown, a Navy SEAL chief, was killed in action in Komar Province, Afghanistan, in March 2010.

Eric Blehm of San Diego, wrote a book, Fearless, about Brown's commitment to country and family. At the fundraiser, Blehm signed copies of the book for guests in lieu of donations and shared the microphone with the master of ceremonies, KARK-TV chief meteorologist Keith Monahan.

"Thank you for sharing Adam with us, even if for a short time," Monahan told Brown's family, which included his widow, Kelley Brown; mother and father Janice and Larry Brown; brother Shawn Brown and his wife, Tina; and sister Manda Atkinson and her husband, Jeremy Atkinson, all of Hot Springs.

Event chairman Julie Mehlin said the event sold out in two weeks, and organizers quickly found a way to accommodate more people. About 185 attended.

Auction items included Navy SEAL training, which sold twice for a total of $8,000; a trip to Breckenridge, Colo., that sold for $5,000; and a private party for 10 and flight simulation package, which sold for $2,000 each.
