A Fayetteville man accused of entering a woman's home and raping her was arrested Monday in connection with rape and burglary, according to a preliminary arrest report from the Fayetteville Police Department.

Jerry Kidwell, 41, was being held Tuesday in the Washington County Jail with no bond set.

A woman told police she awoke Sunday being raped by a man she did not recognize, according to the report. She said she chased the man from her residence, and he got in the passenger side of a car that then drove away, the report stated.

Police were able to identify the man driving the vehicle.

He identified the passenger as Kidwell, and told police Kidwell had asked him for a ride to the woman's house, the report stated. When they arrived, Kidwell knocked on the door before walking in, according to the report. He ran out about five minutes later and got in the car before the two drove away, the report stated.

Kidwell spoke to police Monday and told them he went inside the woman's house but did not touch her, according to the report. He did not admit wrongdoing.
