Ride ’Em, Cowboys!

Legendary local author hosts ‘Stampede’ of books

The Ranch Boss is celebrating his latest releases, and he’s bringing along his posse of western and frontier writers to the Rodeo of the Ozarks Community Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Dusty Richards, who has ranched, auctioneered, announced rodeo and worked 32 years at Tyson Foods, has written more than 100 novels and will celebrate his three newest releases: “The Mustanger and the Lady,” “The Natural” (a second release of his 2004 award-winning novel) and “Pray for the Dead,” the eighth Chet Byrnes novel.

In addition to celebrating his own work, Richards will be hosting the live digital and print release of the latest issue of his brainchild, Galway Press’ western magazine, Saddlebag Dispatches. It marks the first appearance of the magazine in print, with articles on western history, culture and locations as well as short and serial fiction.

Richards will share the spotlight with several local emerging authors in the western, country and frontier genre, including Velda Brotherton, J.B. Hogan, Spur Award-winner James Crownover, John J. Dwyer, Chet Dixon, Gil Miller, Darrel Sparkman and Writer’s Digest Grand Award-winner John T. Biggs.

The event is hosted by the Rodeo of the Ozarks and Oghma Creative Media. Live music will be provided by local folk and Americana band, East of Zion.
