Comment period open on hunting regulations

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is asking the public to provide feedback on the state's hunting regulations. Any comments or concerns can be provided by going to the regulations survey at agfc.com.

The following considerations are being considered for the 2016-17 season:

• Eliminate the use of or possession of all deer scents/lures that contain natural deer urine or other deer body fluids effective July 2017.

• Implement private lands antlerless only modern gun deer hunt for deer zones 4, 4A, 4B, 5, 5A, 5B, 7 and 11.

• Extend archery deer season to the end of February on Dave Donaldson Black River, Earl Buss Bayou DeView, Freddie Black Choctaw Island East Unit, Robert L. Hankins Mud Creek, St. Francis Sunken Lands, Shirey Bay Rainey Brake and Wedington wildlife management areas.

• Increase deer bag limit from two deer (no more than one buck) to three deer (no more than one buck) and allow a doe to be taken with modern gun the first two days of modern gun deer season on White Rock Wildlife Management Area.

• Add the modern gun Christmas deer hunt on Loafer's Glory management area.

• Add a youth modern gun permit deer at Ed Gordon Point Remove area.

• Eliminate the doe permit requirement and allow a doe to be harvested during muzzle-loader season on Caney Creek and Muddy Creek areas.

• Add youth modern gun deer permit hunt for Rick Evans Grandview Prairie area.

• Extend spring turkey season to 21 days, opening on the third Saturday in April annually.

• Open turkey zone 1A to turkey hunting.

• Reduce duck disturbance by eliminating afternoon boating access on Dave Donaldson Black River area except within Black River and Little River.

• Open quail season on Rick Evans Grandview Prairie and Robert L. Hankins Mud Creek areas.

• Allow rabbit hunting all day and every day during duck season on Harris Brake area.

Public comments will be accepted via online survey until midnight, April 19. Written comments may be mailed by April 15 to: Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Attn: hunting regulations proposals, 2 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
