Washington County Election Commission approves provisional ballots, plans for run-off

FAYETTEVILLE -- The Washington County Election Commission met Wednesday to approve provisional ballots, which will be added to the final tallies for Tuesday's election.

Commissioners approved 28 ballots and rejected nine, said Jennifer Price, election coordinator. The small number of provisional and absentee ballots didn't change the outcome of any Washington County race or ballot issue, she said.

Reasons to reject ballots included signatures that didn't match with the voter's registration and voters who weren't registered in Washington County.

Commissioners will wait until March 11 to certify the final votes, Price said. The delay gives about 20 absentee ballots from military members voting overseas a chance to arrive and be counted, she said.

The commission also agreed to start the process of preparing for the primary runoff election March 22.

Voters will go back to the polls to decide between candidates William Billy Harris and Nickel Potter for a constable position and between Isaac Foley and Clint Penzo for the District 88 state representative seat.

Early voting begins March 15, according to the commission's website. The primary runoff election results will be certified April 1, Price said.
