Travelers fall before All-Star break

The Arkansas Travelers lost 4-2 to the Springfield Cardinals on Sunday at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.

Sunday's game was the final game before the Texas League All-Star break. This year's All-Star game is in Springfield on Tuesday.

Springfield took two out of three from Arkansas, winning on Saturday and Sunday.

Nick Martini went 2 for 2 and drove in a run for the Cardinals. Jonathan Rodriguez also had two hits and had an RBI.

Andrew Daniel led the Travs offensively, going 2 for 3. Angel Rosa had two hits. Arkansas did not have an extra-base hit Sunday.

Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on Mike Ohlman's RBI single. The Travs tied the game in the top of the third at 1-1 when Caleb Adams reached on a fielding error by shortstop Juan Herrera, allowing Anthony Phillips to score.

The Cardinals regained the lead in the bottom of the third, 2-1. Rodriguez' RBI triple brought home Harrison Bader. Springfield extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles from Martini and Herrera.

Jose Briceno's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning cut the lead to 4-2.

Luke Weaver improved to 4-0. Weaver scattered 6 hits, struck out 8 and allowed 1 run in 5 innings.

Victor Alcantara (2-5) allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 5 innings for Arkansas. He struck out seven and walked one.

NATURALS 8, DRILLERS 3

Ryan O'Hearn hit three doubles and scored two runs to help Northwest Arkansas defeat Tulsa at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

Tim Hill (1-1) earned his first Class AA victory, pitching two innings of relief of starter Pedro Fernandez.
