Trump wasn't just selected by GOP voters

It seems to be the opinion of many that Trump's nomination was created by so many dumb Republicans voting for him. Now, let me set the record straight, as I see it.

Yes, it appears he will be the nominee, and yes, on the Republican ballot. But he was selected in the primaries by many who were not GOP voters. If there had not been so many states, including Arkansas, that allowed crossover voting, the story of the year may have had different ending. Many who had never voted before decided to vote. Had he had fewer primary opponents, let's say about 8, splitting the vote, we would have had a more acceptable candidate, or would have at least gone to the convention with no candidate having achieved the 1,237 votes needed to win on the first ballot.

I chose "about 8" because the "season" started so early that many candidates had dropped out before the primaries began.

Will I vote for him? Yes. I have to hope he will be the better of our choices. We can hope he will choose someone to the middle or right, as Hillary certainly wouldn't. Another concern is terrorism. I don't think he has a satisfactory answer on that, or maybe the one he has isn't so good, but at least he wouldn't let the whole world come to America for Americans to pay for them. As much as I will hold my nose, I will cry; I have been given no choice but to support the candidate who survived a challenge.

To all those who like to say, "Well, you Republicans chose him," remember, we didn't.

A lot can be learned by reading newspaper

I love my Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. On June 15, I learned that the former University of Arkansas trustees are brilliant and issued a statement about the expensive expansion opposed by David Pryor and others.

I read it in the paper!

Also I now know the wonderful fact that both the valedictorian and the salutatorian (in Bentonville) are Muslim and I believe Asian Indian. This is a joy. I'm happy the father of Atharva Marathe wrote to the paper and was published.

I read about my wonderful hometown, events at Crystal Bridges and learned who in the community has passed away.

I really learned from the ideas of Nancy Saunders of Durham in the letters section. Ideas expressed by others are so needed because we all need to think.

So, I read the paper. Look at all I learned.

Truck driver's inhumane act horrifies

What kind of people live in Arkansas that they can run over an helpless geese?

I experienced the other day the worst thing I have ever seen, and I'm questioning the kind of people who live in this state. A truck literally ran over the goose, never trying to miss it. It was a deliberate hit. I was sick to my stomach.

I question living in a town where people like this live. It was horrifying!
