Robber hits two state banks in two hours

Police are searching for a man described as a multistate "serial bank robber" who held up branches in two Arkansas cities Thursday.

The Bryant Police Department said the man also was accused recently of robbing banks in North Carolina and Tennessee.

He was wearing black shorts and flip-flops when he robbed the Bank of the Ozarks at 5910 Arkansas 5 North in Bryant around 10:30 a.m., according to a news release. Police said the man gave the teller a note indicating he had a bomb and left in a dark, four-door SUV.

The same man is accused of robbing Petit Jean State Bank around 12:30 p.m. at 1620 University Blvd. in Morrilton, which is about 60 miles northwest of Bryant, police said.

Morrilton police described the white, heavy-set man, believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s, as standing 6 feet tall. He has brown hair and a mole on his right cheek, authorities said.

The man could be traveling in a black Chevrolet Trailblazer with a luggage rack and rain guards over the windows, according to authorities.

It wasn't clear whether the man was armed during the Arkansas heists.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bryant police at (501) 943-0865 or Morrilton police at (501) 354-0131.
