Layes named Rogers Heritage volleyball coach

Lindsey Layes is no stranger to 7A-West Conference volleyball. She played at Fort Smith Southside under longtime coach Steve Haaser, and now she will be coaching in it. The 25-year-old’s move from Prairie Grove to Rogers Heritage was made official during Tuesday’s evening school board meeting. Layes spent the past two seasons at Prairie Grove and replaces Sarah Miser, who left to become dean of students at Bentonville High School She is hoping to continue Miser’s work, which she led to back-to-back state tournament appearances the last two seasons. “I’ve watched how coach Miser has built a solid foundation and hope to come in and continue building that,” Layes said. Layes acknowledged the timing could be better since the two-week dead period begins next week, but she’s ready to go to work. “I was set and ready to go for next season with my team at Prairie Grove and this opportunity came up,” Layes said. “It’s an honor coaching in 7A at 25.” Layes is holding tryouts this week, with another in July for some who are on vacation. The Lady War Eagles will also attend a team camp at Missouri State in late July. “We’ve got to get after it pretty quick,” Layes said. “They have to get to know me and adjust to having a new coach.”
