PARIS -- Iceland, the smallest nation at the European Championship, delivered the feel-good story of the tournament by beating Austria 2-1 on Wednesday.

Iceland’s Arnor Ingvi Traustason (bottom) celebrates with teammate Birkir Bjarnason after scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Austria in Saint-Denis, France.

Iceland's victory, which came with virtually the last kick of the game, means the team has qualified for the round of 16. There it will meet England in Nice on Monday, a prospect described as a "dream" by captain Aron Gunnarsson.

Arnor Ingvi Traustason sealed the victory in the fourth minute of injury time. Having drawn its first two matches at Euro 2016, the victory secured Iceland second place in Group F behind Hungary.

Iceland took the lead through Jon Dadi Bodvarsson in the 18th minute at Stade de France.

It was fortunate to see Austria defender Aleksandar Dragovic miss a penalty in the 37th and was then forced to defend for most of the second half.

Austria equalized in the 60th through substitute Alessandro Schoepf and dominated the final stages, only to be hit by a classic counter-attack in the last seconds as almost the entire team piled forward.

Traustason slid in at the far post to bundle the ball into the net, and was buried by a heap of Iceland players, substitutes and officials. The whole squad celebrated in front of their fans in joyous scenes after the final whistle.

The Austrians arrived at the Euros as potential dark horses after going unbeaten in qualifying, but failed to live up to their billing.

IRELAND 1, ITALY 0

LILLE, France -- A late goal from Robby Brady proved enough for Ireland to beat Italy and secure a place for his team in the knockout stages of the European Championship.

Brady's 85th minute header ended Ireland's 22-year wait for a competitive victory over Italy and guaranteed that the team ended up as one of the best third-place teams. Its reward -- a round of 16 match against France in Lyon on Sunday.

It's the first time Ireland has made it to the knockout stage of the European Championship, having failed to do so in its two previous appearances, in 1988 and 2012.

BELGIUM 1, SWEDEN 0

NICE, France -- Zlatan Ibrahimovic has played his last game for Sweden, a loss to Belgium at the European Championship.

The Swedes were eliminated from the competition while Belgium advanced to the round of 16, where they will play Hungary on Sunday in Toulose.

Radja Nainggolan scored the winning goal for the Belgians with a powerful shot in the 84th minute from outside the penalty area, beating Sweden goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson.

EURO 2016

PORTUGAL 3, HUNGARY 3

LYON, France -- Cristiano Ronaldo erupted from his scoring slump by netting his first two goals of the European Championship, helping Portugal earn a draw with Hungary and sending both teams into the round of 16.

Ronaldo scored in the 50th and 62nd minutes, the first with a spectacular back heel, making him the first player to score in four consecutive European Championships.

After not scoring in his team's opening two draws, Ronaldo, 31, broke out at Stade de Lyon to increase his record haul with his 59th and 60th career goals.

COPA AMERICA

CHILE 2, COLOMBIA 0

CHICAGO -- Charles Aranguiz and Jose Pedro Feunzalida scored in the first half and defending champion Chile returned to the Copa America championship with a soggy victory over Colombia.

Led by Claudio Bravo's stellar effort in goal, Chile earned its fourth consecutive victory since a 2-1 loss to top-ranked Argentina in their Group D opener. Next up is a rematch with La Albiceleste in the final Sunday night in New Jersey.

James Rodriguez and Colombia got off to a slow start and their push for a comeback was hampered by a strong line of thunderstorms that delayed the start of the second half by two hours and 15 minutes, drenching the playing surface at Soldier Field, home of the NFL's Chicago Bears.

Rodriguez got open for a low, hard shot in the second half that Bravo knocked down before pouncing on the ball before Colombia could get to it. Rodriguez pounded the wet turf in frustration after the play.

Colombia, which will face the United States in the third-place game on Saturday night in Arizona, also had to play with 10 men after Carlos Sanchez received his second yellow card in the 57th minute.

Chile played without Arturo Vidal after the skilled midfielder was suspended for a second yellow card, and defensive midfielder Marcelo Diaz was sidelined by injury.

The defending champions lost another midfielder in the first half when Pedro Pablo Hernandez was unable to continue following a collision near midfield.

Colombia Coach Jose Nestor Pekerman talked Tuesday about his team's inability to finish, and the same problem showed up again in the country's first appearance in the Copa semifinals since 2004. Roger Martinez's drive was stopped by a diving Bravo midway through the first half, and Bravo denied Sanchez with another lunging stop right before halftime. Rodriguez also shot wide on another prime opportunity.

Meanwhile, Chile quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead, taking advantage of a Colombia mistake and making the most of another sharp play from Alexis Sanchez in his 100th appearance for the country.
