SPRINGDALE — A man accused of shooting his wife in the back in 2006 was arrested and booked into the Washington County jail early Wednesday morning on one count of attempted first-degree murder, according to jail records and a 2007 arrest warrant.

Carlos Barrera-Reyes, 59, of 678 Marsha Wood in Memphis, Tenn., was captured by Houston police in Texas, Washington County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kelly Cantrell said in a message Wednesday.

Investigators had searched for Barrera-Reyes in connection with first-degree attempted murder, according to the warrant. He was being held at the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $100,000 bond Wednesday.

According to the arrest warrant, police went to 601 Harve St. on Dec. 2, 2006 and found Barrera-Reyes' wife with a gunshot wound to the back. She told police she and Barrera-Reyes had been arguing, and she told him she didn't want to live with him any more.

Barrera-Reyes told her, "If you don't live with me, I'm going to kill you," and "I'll see you in another life," before shooting her in the back, according to the warrant.

Barrera-Reyes' daughter told police she was in the living when she heard arguing and a gunshot from the back bedroom before Barrera-Reyes left the house and didn't return, the warrant stated.

Barrera-Reyes was placed on the Washington County Sheriff's Office "Most Wanted" list when deputies could not locate him, Cantrell said. A warrant for his arrest was entered into the National Crime Information Center database in 2007, she said.
