— The University of Arkansas will host the Thorpe Cup at John McDonnell Field on July 29-30.

The Thorpe Cup is an annual decathlon competition between male and female athletes from the U.S. and Germany. The Germans have won six straight matches since 2010.

It will be the first international competition ever competed on the Fayetteville campus.

"I have no doubt we are going to host a world-class competition," Arkansas men's track coach Chris Bucknam said. "The timing is exciting as well with the meet a week before the 2016 Olympic Games and we are thrilled to show the world our first class facility at John McDonnell Field."

Arkansas was chosen by USA Track & Field to host the event. John McDonnell Field has one of three Class 1 certified tracks in the U.S., according to the International Association of Athletics Federations.
