Springdale man accused of fracturing infant's skull

SPRINGDALE — A Springdale man was arrested Monday after his 1-month-old suffered a skull fracture while in the man's care, according to a police preliminary report released Tuesday.

Anthony Wayne McKown, 29, of Springdale was arrested in connection with first-degree domestic battery.

Police were called Sunday after an infant was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale with a fracture on the left side of his skull, according to the report. A large bruise covered the left side of the infant's face, police said.

The infant's injury was consistent with blunt force trauma, according to the report. The infant was not responsive, and a doctor told police the boy was likely brain-dead from the injuries, according to the report.

The infant’s mother had left her son with his father, McKown, while she was at work, according to the report.

McKown told police he picked up the infant from his parents’ house and took him to a motel room at 1219 S. Thompson St. McKown listed the hotel as his address on the police report. McKown said he was feeding the infant when the he stopped breathing, according to the report.

McKown then requested an attorney, the report stated.

McKown was at the Washington County Detention Center with a $50,000 bond Tuesday and court hearing set for Wednesday, according to jail records online. The police report indicated McKown has a criminal history that includes domestic battery and sexual assault, according to the report.
