Sparks receives heart, stroke recognition

Sparks Health System in Fort Smith and Sparks Medical Center-Van Buren recently received awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

Sparks Health System received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. It's the sixth time the Fort Smith hospital has been recognized by the program. To receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, hospitals must achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month periods and achieve 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures.

Sparks in Fort Smith was recognized for both Outstanding Stroke Patient Care (Defect-Free Care) and Outstanding Completion of Swallow/Dysphagia Screen. Sparks Medical Center-Van Buren was recognized for Outstanding Documentation of EMS Notifying Hospital Suspected Stroke Cases En Route.

Sparks in Fort Smith has also met requirements of The Joint Commission Certification in Disease-Specific Care for Stroke and is currently certified by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

Dental center opens Bentonville location

Pediatric Dental Associates & Orthodontics has been in business for more than 15 years in Fayetteville and recently opened a second location. The business started in 1999 at 1607 E. Rainforest Road in Fayetteville. The new office is at 801 S.W. Regional Airport Blvd., Bentonville.
