Six awards were given out Saturday:
Bryant’s Kirk Bock was named the All-Arkansas Preps Coach of the Year. Bock led Bryant to the Class 7A state baseball championship.
Cabot junior Jarrod Barnes received the Male Athlete of the Year award. Barnes is a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track and field.
Jonesboro senior Starr Taylor earned the Female Athlete of the Year. Taylor participated in basketball and track and field for the Lady Hurricane.
Rogers Heritage senior Jed Wilson received the Hussman Community Award. The Hussman Community Award, named in honor of Democrat-Gazette publisher Walter E. Hussman Jr., is given to the athlete who has worked to better his community.
Gia Hayes, a senior at eStem in Little Rock, received the P.A.R.K. Education Award. Hayes was the captain of eStem’s girls basketball team and graduated with a 4.2 grade-point average. She will play basketball at Bucknell, where she plans to study civil engineering.
The CHI St. Vincent Health Award was given to Morgan and Bailey Mc-Alexander. The McAlexander twins are juniors at Valley View in Jonesboro and play volleyball, tennis, basketball and soccer. Morgan and Bailey overcame a heart condition known as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which was discovered from an EKG during a free athletic physical.
