Woman's body found in burning trailer home

FAYETTEVILLE -- Firefighters found a woman dead in a burning mobile home about midnight Wednesday, emergency officials said Thursday.

Tyler McCartney, Washington County assistant fire marshal, said he didn't know if Mary Carpenter, 84, died because of the fire.

Carpenter's body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory, Coroner Roger Morris said. The case is under investigation, McCartney said.

The fire was in the middle part of the mobile home at 14690 Appaloosa Circle, said Mark Cunningham, Farmington fire chief. The flames were quickly extinguished and the home was heavily damaged, he said.

McCartney said investigators were looking into who owned the property.
