Heavy rain causing flash floods in part of state

YELLVILLE — The National Weather Service says heavy rainfall is causing flash flooding in northern Arkansas.

A flash flood warning is in effect Friday morning for Baxter and Marion counties. Forecasters say the area has seen 4 inches of rain, and another 1 inch of rain is possible.

The weather service says two county roads have been washed out near the town of Peel, and that hikers and campers should avoid streams or creeks.

Strong winds also downed trees in Marion County.
