The 14-year-old dynamo from the Philippines hit big shot after big shot to run away with the AJGA All-Star Tournament at Lost Springs Golf Club on Thursday.
Constantino scorched the field, shooting a final round nine-under par 63 to win the girls title by a whopping 14 strokes. She punctuated her win by sinking a 12-foot birdie putt on No. 18. She finished the three-day tournament with a 13-under 203, the only female participant to shoot under par
"My putter was really working today," Constantino said. "The first two days my putting wasn't that great, but I worked on it and when I made about a 10-foot birdie putt on No. 12, and I was like 'Wow, what's going on?'"
Constantino had a four-shot lead heading into Thursday's final round and quickly seized control with three birdies over the first four holes.
"After the first four holes, I was like, 'This is going to be amazing,'" she said. "I never expected this, but after the first four holes, I knew this was going to be a really good round."
While Constantino ran away with the girls title, the boys title came down to the final hole as Braedon Wear of Maryville, Tenn., and Ross Steelman of Columbia, Mo., each stood at one-under at No. 18.
Wear boomed a drive off the tee that split the fairway about 135 yards from the pin, while Steelman's drive went a little left and came to rest on a fairway mound.
Wear, 15, knew he had the perfect stick in his bag and grabbed his pitching wedge. He threw a dart on the green that rolled within five feet of the hole, and he calmly tapped in for a birdie and the win. Steelman's second shot landed a few feet off the green, and his pitch came up a little short.
"My favorite club in my bag is my pitching wedge," Wear said. "I just got over it and remembered what my swing coach told me, just use all body and make sure you trust it. I just got over it, I felt good and I made perfect contact and I knew, as soon as I hit it, it was going to be good."
As Wear walked off the green, he was embraced by his father, Gary Wear, and the two shared an emotional hug.
"That was the best, to be able to hug my dad after a win," Braedon said.
Wear said he started playing golf 12 years ago. This was his first AJGA tour win. He is headed to South Carolina to play in another event next week.
"When I was born, I was a preemie, and when I was little I'd sit on my dad's lap and watch golf on TV," he said. "When I started walking, the first thing I picked up was a golf club."
For Constantino, she will stay in Northwest Arkansas to compete in the prestigious Stacy Lewis All-Star Invitational at The Blessings next week. She also plans to watch as much of the LPGA's NW Arkansas Championship in Rogers as she can.
"I'm really excited to play in the Stacy Lewis tournament," she said. "I'm nervous, but I'm also confident after winning this week."
That tournament begins Tuesday at The Blessings and runs through Thursday's final round.
