Authorities: Man dies after being pulled from Washington County swimming hole

A 39-year-old man died Wednesday evening after he was pulled from a Washington County swimming hole near Fate Anderson Road, emergency officials said.

The man was identified Michael Hanna, of Bentonville, said Kelly Cantrell, Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman in a message Wednesday.

Bystanders pulled a man out of the water at 5:36 p.m. Wednesday at Gar Hole and began CPR, Cantrell said.

Correction

A previous version of this story misstated the day of the incident. The error has been corrected.

Gar Hole is a known swimming hole of the War Eagle river. The location is rural, emergency officials said.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Nob Hill First Responders and Central EMS came to the scene, Cantrell said.

By 6:45 p.m., a Central EMS dispatcher said the coroner had been notified. The man wasn’t taken to a hospital.

A message left on social media for the Nob Hill Fire Department wasn’t returned Wednesday. A message machine at the department wouldn’t accept new messages.
