Randolph County fire kills 1, hurts 1

POCAHONTAS -- A man died and a woman was injured Thursday in an early morning fire in northern Randolph County, Sheriff Gary Tribble said.

Firefighters responded to a 3 a.m. call of a house fire on Arkansas 115 south of Maynard and found the body of a man inside the home, Tribble said. A woman found outside was severely burned and flown by helicopter to a Memphis hospital.

Tribble did not know the woman's condition.

Police did not release the names of the two, pending notification of relatives, Tribble said.

The sheriff said the fire burned what appeared to be an addition on the east side of the house.

Tribble has asked the Arkansas State Police to assist in the investigation. He said he did not know the cause of the fire.

Authorities sent the man's body to the state Crime Laboratory.
