Roosevelt Rashun Coleman, 24, was convicted late Wednesday after a three-day jury trial in Marion.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney J. Matthew Coe of West Memphis prosecuted the case.

Circuit Judge Ralph Wilson of Osceola rendered the life sentence to Coleman as a habitual offender. Coleman had been convicted of residential burglary twice before, Ellington said.

According to Marion police and evidence presented at the trial, Coleman entered the Dollar General on the Interstate 55 service road in Marion on Sept. 14, 2015, pointed a gun at the assistant manager and demanded money.

Coleman struck the manager on the head with the butt of his weapon and then took cash from the register and fled. The manager was injured and sought treatment at a local hospital, Ellington said.

"Crittenden County will not have to worry about this violent individual walking the streets of their community," Ellington said in a news release Thursday.
