CONWAY -- A Faulkner County jury convicted a Damascus man of manslaughter in the 2014 shooting death of a Conway resident.
The jury found Gary Mallett, 31, guilty of manslaughter Wednesday. He was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Daniel Horton, 28.
Circuit Judge Charles Clawson Jr. sentenced Mallett to 10 years in prison for manslaughter and 15 years for a firearm enhancement. The terms are to be served consecutively, Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Hugh Finkelstein said Thursday. Finkelstein said Mallett also was fined $10,000.
Police found Horton's body buried in a shallow grave in a wooded area of Faulkner County in September 2014 after they obtained a search warrant for Mallett's property, which covered several hundred acres along Slately Gap Road in the Damascus area. Horton had been reported missing June 30, 2014.
