The wind symphony is an auditioned professional and semiprofessional symphony band that performs with woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. According to executive director Brenda Barber, it provides a creative outlet for woodwind players eager to perform and flex their artistic muscles.

Barber says the show should be fun for the whole family: "If somebody needs a nice, relaxing evening, this is perfect. Bring your dog, your family, and a picnic basket and just relax and enjoy a great show."

The Wind Symphony will play a classic Flag Day mix of marches, patriotic songs, movie soundtracks and Broadway show tunes, including a performance of the popular Carmen Dragon arrangement of "America the Beautiful." A special segment recognizing the service of veterans and active military will include performances of service songs from each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The performance and admission to the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History are free, so visitors can see the museum pre-concert and check out the Central Arkansas Corvette Club's car show on display.

Concert attendees can take their own food or buy items from the Southern Salt Food Co. food truck. Free ice cream from Blue Bell Creameries and bottled water from the city of Little Rock will also be available. Woodmen of the World will provide miniature flags.

The Wind Symphony also will auction batons for the privilege of conducting its forthcoming Christmas Show or next year's Stars and Stripes concert.

Steve Parker, senior pastor of Parkway Place Baptist Church in Little Rock, was one of last year's winners and, as promised, will conduct the celebration's grand finale -- a performance of John Philip Souza's "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
