Election Commission sets voting sites on Fayetteville's library election

FAYETTEVILLE -- Voters will cast ballots at seven polling centers during the city library's special election Aug. 9, said Jennifer Price, election coordinator.

The Election Commission decided Wednesday to consolidate its voting centers from 14 to seven for this election, Price said. The move will save the city money without impeding voters, who can cast ballots at any of the centers, she said.

Special elections generally have a lower voter turnout, Price said. A similar election in 2013 drew 5,000 voters, she said.

The approved voting centers are Baldwin Church of Christ, 4399 Huntsville Road; Central United Methodist, 6 W. Dickson St.; Covenant Church, 4511 W. Wedington Drive; Mount Comfort Church of Christ, 3249 Mount Comfort Road; Sang Avenue Baptist Church, 1425 N. Sang Ave.; Sequoyah Methodist Church, 1910 Old Wire Road; and Trinity Fellowship, 1100 Rolling Hills Drive.

Early voting will be at the courthouse beginning Aug. 2.

Residents will decide if the 1-mill property tax dedicated to the library will be raised temporarily to 3.7 mills. The rate would eventually drop to 2.5 mills after paying off bonds to cover expanding the building.
